Ice Cube Types For Your Dining Establishment

by Brad Sullivan

When you're making the decisions for your dining establishment,  you have to decide on everything from the dishes you will serve and the prices to ask for them, down to the ice you will serve. There are different types of ice and they each come with their own sets of benefits. You can learn more about ice and why cubed may be best when you keep reading:

There are several types of ice to choose from, including the following.

Crushed ice

One type of ice you can go with is crushed ice. One thing to know about crushed ice is that it tends to melt quickly in the drink. If you do decide to serve crushed ice, you want to make sure you are serving it in water or soda, but not in alcoholic drinks. This is the type of ice that people love to munch on. If you serve to-go drinks, then you should have this as an option, because many will likely choose it, just so they can chew it after their drink is gone.

Nugget ice

Nugget ice cubes are ones made from layers of flaked ice that get compressed together. This ice won't melt quite as quickly as the crushed ice will, but it is still a type of ice that many find fun to chew. Nugget ice is also good when you need consistency with regard to how much ice goes into the drinks because it's easier to measure.

Block ice

Block ice will keep itself cold for quite a while. Therefore, this is a good choice of ice when you need to keep things chilled without refrigeration.

Regular full cube ice

Full cube ice is like the ice most people make in their home refrigerators. One of the good things about this type of ice is it will take a while for it to melt in the drinks. Full cubes can come in different shapes, with some being more square and some being more rectangular, for example.

Sphere ice cubes

Sphere ice cubes are round, which is where they got their name. These cubes are more commonly used in certain types of alcoholic beverages.

Conclusion

Now that you have learned a bit more about some different types of ice you can choose from for your eating establishment, you may have an easier time choosing the ice that's a good fit. You can also discuss your needs with a cubed ice service, who will have additional information for you.
