A Cake
If you really want to win as a hostess, then consider having a fancy cake made to serve at the baby shower. For instance, you can have a "naked cake" made, which is where it's minimally frosted and then you can put fresh flowers on top. Or, you can do a multiple-tiered cake that's covered in fondant. Whatever cake you decide to get, just make sure that you put it on a pretty cake stand or plate so that it looks even prettier.
Doughnuts
Another really fun thing that you can do is get a bunch of fancy doughnuts form a bakery. Then, you can layer the doughnuts on a cake stand and put them on the center of the food table. The fun thing about doughnuts is that they are affordable, and just about everybody loves them. You can get lots of different flavors so that you can appease everyone without having to try too hard. If you have the extra time, try to pre-order your doughnuts ahead of time so that they can put sprinkles on them that fit the gender of the baby.
Having good food at a baby shower is a must if you want to not only make the mom-to-be happy, but if you want to make the guests happy as well.
