I love food and have been fascinated by worldwide cuisine since I was a young child as my family travelled a lot. I love to cook new foods at home now, but I hate the cost of all the ingredients. My blog is all about food from around the world, and how to cook it on a budget. From buying spices online to sourcing cheaper cuts of meat, my blog posts will have you cooking up a storm in your kitchen in no time at all.

Enjoy Southern Cuisine With A Modern Twist

by Brad Sullivan

Chicken and rice, grits, and pulled pork are some southern specialties that have been enjoyed by locals and visitors for many decades. If you want to experience a little bit of your grandmother's home cooking but would like to add a spin to your meal, try some cuisine that is offered at a modern southern restaurant.

Choose A Restaurant Type

A fine dining, casual, or buffet-style restaurant may all offer an abundance of meals, but the type of restaurant that you choose can impact your dining experience. If you and your spouse are intrigued by southern cuisine, you may want to select a fancy dining establishment that caters to couples and that offers interesting vantage points, private booths and tables, and a bevy of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails that will pair well with the dishes that are featured.

If you are going to be dining with a group of people, or if you have several young children who will be tagging along, you can still get your fill of modern southern food by choosing a casual or buffet-style restaurant. Some restaurants promote their takeout services, which will allow you and the others in your party to fine-tune the meals that will be enjoyed outside of the restaurant.

Before settling on a particular modern southern restaurant, review the menu, and address of each establishment. This information will help you mentally prepare for your dining experience, and after deciding upon one of the places, you will know whether you will need to make reservations beforehand.

Learn About The Cooking Style

Reading a menu will not provide you with all of the information that you may be seeking about a particular dish. The region where food is cooked can have an impact on the style of a specific meal, especially if a particular region is well-known for some distinct food items. You can take a chance and order some items from the menu without really knowing what type of ingredients are being used to create the dish, or you can ask for some additional information.

If you are on a diet, have a food allergy, or are picky about the spices that are added to the foods that you consume, then it is a good idea to ask about the steps that are taken to create any dish that you are interested in. The southern foods that you grew up eating may vary somewhat from what you will be served, so knowing about any alterations will allow you to choose a meal that you will be likely to enjoy.
