There is such a large world of different food types to try that often you are left wondering how to sample them all without going broke. I love food and have been fascinated by worldwide cuisine since I was a young child as my family travelled a lot. I love to cook new foods at home now, but I hate the cost of all the ingredients. My blog is all about food from around the world, and how to cook it on a budget. From buying spices online to sourcing cheaper cuts of meat, my blog posts will have you cooking up a storm in your kitchen in no time at all.

Are You Wanting To Add Pizzaz To Your Meals?

by Brad Sullivan

Do you feel like you're in a cooking rut? Maybe you tried many new recipes when you first got married. Then you had kids and it seemed like there was always somebody who didn't like certain foods you had prepared. Now you're in a different time when you want to cook with a flair again. From tweaking your recipes to buying things like flavor-infused extra virgin olive oil, here are some ideas that might help you to add pizzaz to your meals.

Go Through All Of Your Recipes

If you've been married for a while, you probably have a huge accumulation of recipes. If that's the case, consider going through all of your recipes to see which ones you want to keep and which ones you know you'll never use. For example, maybe you have a recipe for rotisserie chicken. But now that you can buy already prepared delicious rotisserie chicken at a very affordable price, you probably won't use your own recipe ever again. Toss it.

Think of what you can do with the recipes you kept. For example, maybe you make good taco soup, but you know it could be even better. On a shopping list, add ingredients like chopped green chilis and onions that might make your taco soup an award winner.

Even desserts can be tweaked. For example, a recipe for chocolate cake might be even more delicious if you add a liqueur, chocolate chips, and chopped pecans to the recipe.

Buy Things Like Flavor-Infused Extra Virgin Olive Oil

As you go through your recipes, write down ingredients that you need to buy in order to actually prepare them. For example, maybe you have a recipe for a Chinese salad dressing and you haven't made it because it calls for sesame seeds and you don't have them in your pantry. Write that down.

You probably have regular olive oil already. However, have you ever tried cooking with flavor-infused extra virgin olive oil? Expect to pay a bit more for this type of olive oil, but also be prepared to make it one of your favorite new ingredients.

For example, if you use olive oil in salad dressings, selecting garlic as the flavor for the olive oil will probably make your salad dressing even more delicious. Lemon-infused olive oil would probably bring your grilled chicken to new heights. You can even use strawberry balsamic olive oil in a dessert. For example, add a bit to some chocolate sauce before putting it on plain vanilla ice cream, and you've got yourself a winning dessert that was simple to make.
