Trying New Foods Without Going Broke

There is such a large world of different food types to try that often you are left wondering how to sample them all without going broke. I love food and have been fascinated by worldwide cuisine since I was a young child as my family travelled a lot. I love to cook new foods at home now, but I hate the cost of all the ingredients. My blog is all about food from around the world, and how to cook it on a budget. From buying spices online to sourcing cheaper cuts of meat, my blog posts will have you cooking up a storm in your kitchen in no time at all.

Mexican Cuisine Catering Ideas For Kids' Parties

by Brad Sullivan

When planning your child's birthday party, you have a lot of things such as presents, favors, and decor to consider. The last thing you probably feel like doing is spending time in the kitchen, cooking and cleaning up, when you have so much on your mind. Hiring your favorite local restaurant to cater the celebration will allow you to focus on the other items on your to-do list.

While there are a variety of different types of foods, such as pizza or pasta, that will please the young guests, turn the party into a fiesta with Mexican cuisine. Not only is it a favorite among people of all ages, but Mexican food is also easy to customize and will allow the children to be interactive with their meals.

When planning the menu with the restaurant caterers, think about any food allergies or dietary restrictions the kids or their parents may have. If necessary, provide several gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy their meals.

When feeding a lot of young guests at once, setting the food up buffet-style maybe convenient. Place all of the ingredients and toppings in individually labeled bowls, and allow the kids to assemble their own plates. If the food requires heating, adults can help them with it at the end of the buffet line by using quesadilla makers, toaster ovens, or grills.

Here are some kid-friendly Mexican catering ideas for your child's next birthday party:

1. Taco Bar

Tacos typically appeal to most kids as they are fun to put together and easy to customize. Provide both hard and soft tortillas and tortilla bowls for salads, so that they can choose their favorite.

Place bowls of all of the necessary ingredients, such as seasoned ground beef, refried beans, shredded lettuce, cheese, diced tomatoes, and sour cream, in order down the table. Instruct the guests to work their way down the table, choosing the toppings they like as they go, to keep the line moving smoothly.

You can also use this concept with burritos, having adults cook the kids' creations for them at the end.

2. Quesadillas

Similar to making their own individual pizzas, kids can create their own quesadillas. Start with smaller-size flour tortillas to accommodate lighter appetites, and have the party-goers fill them with shredded cheese, grilled chicken, refried beans and other ingredients that they'd like.

Adults can grill or bake the quesadillas and then cut them into fun shapes, such as hearts, as a whimsical touch. The youngsters can also transform their quesadillas into faces, using olives as eyes,  corn chips as noses, shredded lettuce as hair, and tomatoes as mouths.
